Solana Beach Sunset 5K Discount and a #HalfPints #GIVEAWAY

Disclaimer: I was sent Half Pint dolls for review purposes and for my daughter to enjoy.  S wanted to share her good fortune with all of you.  I have not been compensated in any way and all opinions are my own!

So one of our very favorite people in the entire world is our friend Kelsey.  She is a rockstar and we totally adore her.  The #SDKidz love her so when she tells me she is involved with a project, I am all for it!  And then once she told me about the Solana Beach Sunset 5k, I loved it even more!

Some info about the event:
  • The San Diego County Medical Society Foundation is holding the 2nd Annual Solana Beach Sunset 5K Run/Walk at Fletcher Cove on Saturday, November 14th. Wellness Expo at 2pm, 5K at 3pm.
  • It's Southern California's ONLY sunset 5K! It takes place right on the sand during low tide, so you can run, walk and even push strollers on the harder, compacted sand.
  • The event is to raise funds and awareness for diabetes prevention. Type II diabetes is preventable, and funds go towards our Jump Start for Health Program and would help us reach our goal of serving 400 patients over the next 3 years.
  • This event is family-friendly with live music and activities for kids put on by the Skinny Gene Project, another local nonprofit specializing in diabetes prevention.
  • I have a DEAL for you! Registration is typically $49, but YOU can register for $35 if you use the code "sdmom" (case sensitive) at checkout!
Here is a link to the webpage with all the info and registration: http://sdcmsf.org/events/solana-beach-sunset-5k-nov-14/   Join me!

Switching gears a bit...I was recently contacted by the Pocket People Avenue brand to perhaps review their dolls and spread their message.  Their message by the way?  Everything Matters & Everyone Counts!  How can you not LOVE that?

A little bit about these dolls.  These particular ones are called Half Pints.  There are 12 styles and they are about 4" tall.  They each have a name and a distinct look.

They are a local So Cal company which I love.  But their story is even better.  Rita Ross is the creator of Pocket People.  She describes herself as "I'm a mother, an artist, and a cancer survivor, but what I really wish to be is an ambassador of empathy and to bring these dolls into the hands of every kind of person. Why? Because Everyone Matters."

Through the long process of recovering from cancer, Rita began sewing “Pocket People,” small dolls made from socks and found bits of cloth. Each one is different and special.  The Half Pints retail for just $5 each and make great gift toppers!  S decided to give one of her to her best friend M.

S and I are giving away "Sophia" to one of you!  She hand selected the one she thought looked most like me (?? - funny how kids see you) and decided Sophia was the one.  I like Sophia because her message is "Be Brave" and no one is braver than my girl.

Want to win Sophia for a little girl in your life?   Or someone who just needs a smile?  All you have to do is comment below with a person or your favorite phrase that reminds you to be brave.  Mine is always Serena and her braveness in the face of Epilepsy.  What is yours?

#FlawlessFriday with @BzeesOfficial SHOE #GIVEAWAY!

Disclaimer: I have been given free Bzees shoes in the past for review purposes but I have also purchased my own because I love them that much!  All opinions are 100% my own and I have not been compensated in any other way!

HOLY MOLY COW!  You guys!  I have shoes to give away!  Shoot!  I shouldn't have started with that!  I should have told you all about how awesome Bzees are.  But I have already told you about them.  Here and here.

So a little background on my love for Bzees.  I fell in love with these shoes they sent me to review.

So I bought these because I loved them so much.

Then I ended up selecting these when I went to the Blogger event at Athleta UTC.

But I was so close to choosing these at that same event!

Here they are not on my GIANT feet.

And here are the blue.

You can also view them on the Bzees Facebook page on feet FAR prettier than mine.A little bit more about Bzees and what makes them special?  Glad you asked!  Every Bzees shoe has Free Foam and as a runner, this is so important!  From their website: Free Foam is a specially blended micro-cellular polymer foam that delivers high resiliency (bounce back), and doesn’t compact. It creates a low pressure walking experience that’s like walking on a cloud. An additional viscoelastic memory foam arch support provides a compressive customized fit to accommodate a wide range of arch heights and enhances the “cloud walking” experience. In Bzees speak, these free foam footbeds are squishy and shape to your foot while wearing.

And now, 1 lucky winner gets to pick their choice of the Flawless Slip On (blue warped print) or the Splendid Flat (maroon) in their size!  Enter on the Rafflecopter...of course!

Wednesday #GIVEAWAY Roundup - @Headsweatsco Edition #WinAllThePrizes

Disclaimer: As a Headsweats ambassador, I am sent products to review and sometimes, to give away.  But all my opinions are my own and I am not compensated in any other way.

It is Wednesday!  And I have a new product from one of my VERY favorite brands to giveaway!  Headsweats now makes headbands.  Makes perfect sense right?

Why wouldn't the makers of the best visors and hats around get into the other headwear?  And just like all of their products, they pay attention to what the wearer needs.  There are two different types on the website.

They have 3" Endurance bands and 1" Energy bands.  It is hard to say but I think I prefer the Energy bands for exercise and the Endurance bands for fashion.

The pink is the energy band.  Holds my crazy hair in place thru a vigorous workout thanks to the velvet under layer.

The blue is the endurance band.  It is super soft and silky and doesn't do a great job holding my hair back during exercise but it sure does add color to an outfit and keeps the hair off your face.

The pink worked great for cuddling on the couch with my boy!

And the blue worked great walking my kids around the neighborhood to "BOO" their friends!

So now, I am giving two of you the chance to win 2 headbands each - 1 Energy and 1 Endurance band in your choice of available color!  Enter on the Rafflecopter!

Wednesday #GIVEAWAY Roundup - #WinAllThePrizes

It is Wednesday!  I have my last LONG run scheduled for Saturday and it is bittersweet.  Sometimes, it is the one run I look forward to all week.  But that just means Revel Canyon City is even closer!

But look for me to wear one of my newest Spandits skirts this weekend.  Brand new print!

#WeekendUpdate: A 20 miler, a 2nd place win and #LoveQTee flip-flops

Disclaimer: I was sent a pair of flip-flops to customize in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own.

This past weekend, I completed the 4th of 4 20 milers on this training cycle for Revel Canyon City Marathon training.  And I couldn't have done it without the constant support and encouragement from Jenn, Vanessa and Jamye!  My tribe ROCKS!

So, of course, we had to celebrate with our favorite bacon Bloody Mary's from Union Tap Kitchen in Encinitas!  Thank goodness Leslie joined us too!

My girl lost 3 teeth this last week.  3 TEETH!  It has changed her whole face but each stage makes her that much cuter.  But the tooth fairy maybe be broke soon!

We headed out to Temecula to help raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation on Sunday morning - missing teeth and all.

The riders had a shortened route of 18 miles because it was so hot.  (102 degrees)

But even with a flat tire, SD Dad came in 2nd place overall!  He rocks!

Oh and I got some new flip flops!  I have told you about QTees before.  Here and here.  First, I got to customize a hat.  Then I customized a t-shirt.  This time I got to customize flip flops.

Do these flip flops remind you of something?  Yup!  One of my favorite Spandits prints!  Skulls!

Right?  Don't they match perfectly??  The best part is you can customize EVERYTHING about the flips.  The strap color.  The skull color.  All of it.  But I wanted them to match my Spandits.

Super fun right?  I think I want to get these next and get all the champagne bottles green because champagne.  That's why!

So head on over and see which flip flops you would get and how you would customize them!  They are not OOfos or Birkenstock comfortable but they are cuter!

So have you ever tried QTees?  How far did you run this week?  Did you have a fun weekend?  Do you have a tribe of super supportive women?

As always, I wish you Happy Feet,
SD Mom

#MeatlessMonday - Spinach & #HempHearts Soup & @ManitobaHarvest #GIVEAWAY

Disclaimer: As part of my ambassadorship with #sweatpink and FitApproach, I was sent Hemp Hearts for review and giveaway purposes.  All opinions are my own!

I am linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Tina Muir for Meatless Mondays!

And also with Powered By BLINGThe Fit Foodie Mama, and Running on Happy for Meatless Mondays!

There are days when NOTHING sounds better than a bowl of soup.  Yes, I realize I have been facing 100 degree weather here.

That is why, when I was sent Hemp Hearts for review purposes, I decided to look thru their recipe banks for something different.  Sure they suggest sprinkling it on cereals and salads but I wanted soup.

I came across this awesome recipe for soup on their website and modified it for individual consumption (meaning - my family looked at me like I was crazy when I said I wanted to make spinach and hemp heart soup)!

Turns out I had all the ingredients I needed for this soup (or at least all the ingredients I could sub for the original ingredients in the soup).

Spinach Hemp Hearts Soup
2 cups loosely packed baby spinach
Juice of 1/2 a large lemon
1 tbsp coconut oil
1 small shallot
1.5 cups chicken / vegetable broth
1/3 cup Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts
Sea Salt (if needed)
Garnish: 1 tsp each Hemp Hearts & Parmesan cheese

Directions:
1.  Roughly shred one shallot and throw it in a saucepan

2.  Add 1.5 cups broth to the saucepan and heat until boiling.

3.  Place spinach in the blender jar.

4.  Squeeze in lemon juice.

5.  Add in coconut oil.

6.  Pour in boiling broth / shallot mixture and blend.

6.  Let cool for a few minutes and then measure in 1/3 cup hemp hearts.

7.  Blend again and pour into individual soup bowls or ramekins.  Garnish with parmesan and hemp hearts.  ENJOY!

It is delicious, refreshing, light and gluten free.  And can be made completely vegan too!  Okay, now you know how to make the hemp hearts soup. But why should you even bother with hemp hearts?  Glad you asked!

With all the talk about going meatless at least one day a week, making Hemp Hearts a part of your diet is a good idea.  Hemp Hearts are a COMPLETE protein!  Full of Omega 3s and 6s.  I hear those are great for you too!

And as always, I am giving you a chance to win a 2oz bag of your own!  Enter to win on the Rafflecopter!
