Friday Fascinations: 5 Things I am LOVING this week!

We made it to Friday which means this weekend will be all the Halloween parties!  My S is also going to 2 birthday parties this weekend so as always, it will be a busy one!  We are almost to November and I have 5 things I want to tell you about!  Let's get to it!

1.  This recipe for Crispy Roasted Tofu from In Jennie's Kitchen

My son and I love tofu and this is such a fun way to make it.  Makes it really versatile and you can use it anything.  The marinade is soy sauce (gluten free), dijon mustard and maple syrup!   TRUST!

2.  This shirt from 73Threads

I know they have other state versions but I loved this one and bought it for my husband for his birthday.

The 73Threads shirts are so soft!  Use code sdmom for 10% off!

3.  This contest I entered to raise money for Epilepsy
The premise is you design a t-shirt and whose ever design wins, the charity of their choice gets up to $10,000 and of course, I am raising money for Epilepsy.  Will you please go vote here?  What a great cause!

4.  This Red Ace Organics Beet Juice

I started drinking these just today so not sure how it effects me yet but it is a really cool concept.  Drink the equivalent of 3 beets a day.  Supposed to have all sorts of great benefits including lowering blood pressure.  Stay tuned!

5.  And finally, MEB!

I had the chance to run the FitFoodie5K in San Diego and it was an awesome race with even more awesome scenery!  But the best part was meeting Meb after the race.  I highly recommend this race to everyone!  Worth traveling in for too.  The views are amazing.

And the swag even better!

And free photos!

Today, I am linking up with Nicole for Fit & Fashionable Friday, Heather for Friday Favorites, Annmarie for Foodie Friday and Jill for Fitness, Health & Happiness Link-Up!

So tell me something you are loving this week!

As always, I wish you Happy Feet,
SD Mom

Runtastic Fitness Review & Runtastic PRO App GIVEAWAY!

Disclaimer: This post is sponsored by Runtastic Fitness Channel thru my ambassadorship with Fit Approach and #sweatpink!  All opinions are 100% my own.

I am super excited to share with you everything I have learned thanks to Runtastic Fitness Channel!  You can check it out and subscribe here.  I will focus on all the cool things I have learned about 10K and how to approach them.  If you are anything like me, I am not a fan of the 5K or the 10K.  They are just too short and they leave no room for error.  So you might as well stack the odds in your favor and get a proper warm up.  A proper fueling plan.

For a proper warm up, I checked out "The Perfect Warm-up and Cool Down for a 5K or 10K Race."

And then I decided to create my own!  Check it out: Bloopers and all!

A video posted by Smitha (@runningwithsd) on

I hope I made you laugh!  But seriously, I learned a lot!  Like who knew quad stretches were a cool down.  And I learned how to do butt kickers after about 3 tries!

This video on What to Eat Before & After a 10K was super helpful too.  Helps you figure out what kind of calories you should be consuming at each step.

And Lunden (the host) is so easy to listen to!  In fact, she has a whole series on 10Ks.  How to train for them, what to eat, how to stretch.

A couple things about the Runtastic Fitness Channel.  There are so many amazing topics and videos, you really should subscribe.  Also, I would love it if you joined me on the 5 day Instagram Challenge coming up November 1-5.  Win prizes and learn about whole new ways to get FIT!

Yes, Day 4 involves buying a post-Halloween pumpkin!  But wait, I am giving away 4 codes for a Premium Subscription here on the Blog to 4 of you!  All you have to do is comment below with your favorite way to get sweaty!

Running in the Dark: RunLites Review & Giveaway!

Disclaimer: I was sent a pair of RunLites Sling for review and giveaway purposes.  I was not compensated in any other way.  All opinions are 100% my own!

I am about to tell you about a product I use a minimum of 2 times every single week.  Mostly because I am an early morning runner.  And by early morning, I mean 4:55a.m.  Crazy or dedicated...I run in the dark most days!

There are several reasons I run that early.  Mostly I have to get to work by 7:00 a.m. and I need to get my run done.

But the MAIN reason I run that early is so I can get my weekly fix of Angela and we run together before work and meet halfway.  Yes, I will drive further than my commute to work just to see her at least once a week.

And my RunLites Sling ($15.95) lights are so powerful, I am able to lead the way for both of us in the dark!  The wrist strap is also reflective so you never have to worry about not being seen.

And you can get the rechargeable LED lights ($19.99) to go with it.  I love that I never have to worry about the lights burning out or the battery dying.  I would say the battery has about a 5 hour life.

How do I know this?  Well, I recently had the awesome opportunity to pace Jenn & Vanessa to their 100K finish.  In the dark.  I don't know if you have ever done a race in the dark, but it is crazy, scary and exciting.  Your adrenaline pumps hard!  I used both my Sling and my RunLites Active Gloves at the same time.  I didn't know how long we would be out there and I wanted to make sure I had enough light.

So I love both the Sling and the Active Gloves.  The slings are nice because they aren't a full glove and don't cover up your whole hand and make it sweaty.  But the gloves are nice because they are warm and feel great on the cool mornings!

I am giving one of you a chance to win a pair of Sling lights.  All you have to do is enter on the Rafflecopter widget below.
