Restaurant Review: Bottega Americano and Mom's Night Out!

I recently had the chance to check out one of East Village San Diego's little gems - Bottega Americano!  The easiest decision I had to make was who I should take to dinner.

Easy because my mom is RAD and needed a night out!

My mom and I took an Uber to the restaurant because we KNEW we would be trying some of their YUMMY cocktails!  I started with the Galileo's Cup which has Aged rum, gin, hibiscus honey syrup, pineapple, orange and lime.

My mom had a La Dolce Vita which was Vodka, Aperol, fresh watermelon, cucumber, mint and lime.

Both were delicious.  Mine was better!  Haha!  It was so pretty and it tasted fantastic!

We had a hard time deciding on appetizers but our server was awesome and recommended the Woodfired Shrimp.  Our other choices that we couldn't decide on were the Shrimp Cocktail with shared lemon and Di Steffano Ricotta with Honeycomb.

It was incredible.  Came with a garnish of swiss chard, basil, tomatoes and olives.  It came with charred bread.  I asked for the gluten free bread and got the most insanely chewy delicious rosemary and sea salt spiked bread!

Even though my momma isn't allergic to wheat like I am, she enjoyed it too!

For our main dishes, we went very different from each other.  I chose the Blackened Tombo (a type of tuna).  It had baby artichokes, oven roasted tomato, fingerling potatoes, swiss chard and a chorizo broth that I could have swam in for days!  So amazing.  The fish was perfectly cooked!  In LOVE!

My mom got the Flat Iron Steak Tagliata with asparagus, arugula and a truffle oil.  Also good and perfectly cooked!

All the food was so pretty!  And we knew we had to get dessert or we would never forgive each other.  Haha!  We decided on the Panna Cotta (honey vanilla flavor) with raspberry marmalade and a walnut crumb.  Heaven!  (It was a little on the watery side - I wonder if it didn't get a chance to set up very well?)

BOY were we STUFFED!  While waiting for our return Uber, we walked around the restaurant a bit. There is a lot to see including an entire baked goods counter.  So pretty again!

And you have to take a picture with their signature red vespa!

They also have a really pretty outdoor seating area with pretty lights.  I want to sit out there next time.

Zagat named it one of the hottest 11 new Italian restaurants around the country!  Perhaps one of the coolest things the restaurant does is the CSA Farmers Box.  It is $25 for the first week and $20 each week thereafter and it comes with recipes from Chef Dave Warner on how to cook those vegetables.  Check it out here!

BA is celebrating their 2 year anniversary this Labor Day weekend.  That means:
- Happy Hour all day (open to close) in the bar
- 50% off Bottega Americano signature cocktails
- Culinary surprises from co-owner/chef Giuseppe Ciuffa and co-owner/executive Chef Dave Warner

I loved my experience at BA!  Great food and great company and as expected, great service!  While BA did host our dinner, all opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any other way!

Have you been to dinner with your mom lately?  What is your favorite restaurant in San Diego?

As always, I wish you Happy feet (and bellies),
SD Mom

  2. I love CSAS! I'm so bad at using up produce though. Unless it's fruit.
