Summer is over.  At least for now in San Diego.  To me summer is the beach, sunscreen, running at 5:30 a.m. (who am I kidding?  I run at 5:30 all the time!) and ICE CREAM!  Especially ice cream that looks like this.

The combination of flavors in a banana split are kind of awesome.  Chocolate, sliced almonds, raspberries and vanilla.  And you can't forget the banana.  But who can afford ALL THESE calories? So when I was given the opportunity to review and create a smoothie recipe for Puritan's Pride, I jumped at the chance to make a Banana Split smoothie recipe for Fall!  (at the bottom of post)

Here is what I was sent from Puritan's Pride as part of my SweatPink Ambassadorship.

Smoothies are a great way to pack in nutrients in one delicious drink; but sometimes you can get into a recipe rut. So over the next three months I’ve partnered with Puritan’s Pride to pack my smoothies with protein powders and superfoods-based products that can tuck in more nutrients more efficiently. Each month, I’ll be sharing my superfood-packed smoothie and would love to hear about your best smoothie recipes, too.

Banana Split Smoothie Recipe (Vegan)

1 cup Hemp or Almond milk (vanilla flavored and unsweetened)
3 ice cubes
1 banana
6 frozen organic raspberries
1 scoop Good n Natural Vegan Protein Powder (chocolate)
1 TBS Barney Butter Bare Almond Butter (smooth)

1.  Drop 3 ice cubes into a blender or Magic Bullet cup.

2.  Add 3/4 cup of Hemp milk

3.  Add 1 TBS of almond butter

4.  Add in scoop of Vegan Protein Powder

5.  Blend until smooth

6.  Now add in the banana (in chunks) and the frozen raspberries.  Top off with the rest (1/4 cup) of the hemp milk.

7.  Blend and enjoy!

Now does it taste exactly like the Banana Split pictured above?  No but it has the same flavor profile. Vanilla, Chocolate, Raspberry, Banana and Almond.  You could always boost the super food quotient by adding in the Superior Greens pictured above without altering the taste - too much.  I was also sent Now Foods Carob Powder which you can use in place of cocoa powder in your favorite recipes for delicious natural chocolate flavor without the fat, caffeine or theobromine found in chocolate.

Now, it's your turn to win all of this.

  1. I think a chocolate banana or chocolate/almond butter smoothie. Those are my favorite sundae toppings!

  2. Hmmm... I'd have to play around with them to find something good but I would definitely start with the banana split smoothie. Sounds delicious.

I'm partial to making peanut butter and banana (sometimes with a little cocoa powder) or going chocolate covered strawberry (and banana sometimes).
