#Carlsbad5000 #AllDay20K Recap!

As you may or may not know, I am a member of the Rock n Blog Team for 2015.  This means I get to do what I love best.  Run races and then blog about it.  To make this easier, I was given a TourPass to use on any 3 races in the Run Competitor family.  I chose Carlsbad 5000, Rock n Roll San Diego and Rock n Roll Los Angeles.  You can join me for any of these races by either getting the TourPass yourself for $199 or using code SDMOM for $15 off any Full or Half marathon distance (except Vegas).

So this year, Carlsbad 5000 was on March 29 a Sunday.  I picked out my Blockbuster Spandits skirt and yellow and red ProCompression socks.  Headsweats visor of course.  Honey Stinger for nutrition and Skratch for hydration.  And the Hokas.  Can't run without the Hokas.

BUT turns out, I forgot how to hydrate for a Sunday race and by Saturday evening, I knew I was in trouble.  Thankfully I had some Skratch rescue hydration to bring me up to speed QUICK!

Right away, I decided that this race was A-Ok.

They had race day packet pickup which is AWESOME for a race location almost 40 minutes from home.  So the premise of the all day 20K is to run 4 of the 5K events.  The first heat was Masters Men at 7:00 a.m. followed by the Master's Women at 8:02 followed by the Men & Women 20-29 at 9:17 and finally my age division, 30-39 at 10:37.  In between heats, we got to hang out at the All Day 20K lounge.

We had our own special gear check and our own port pottys and even our own snacks!  And super fun people like these guys in kilts!

My fastest 5K was the first one but I never really intended on racing any of these.  It was more of an endurance thing for me since this would be my first "race" since my Marathon, almost a month ago.  I have to say as the day wore on and the sun started to get hotter and hotter, the waiting time between the 5Ks got more and more annoying.  One time, we even got stopped by a train!

BUT I will say, the course was fantastic!  Lots of rolling hills but a sweet last 1/4 mile DOWNHILL finish every time!

My FAVORITE thing about this race though?  All the friendly faces I got to see there!

Me and Christine!

Me and Kristina and Jamye

Carlee (responsible for a lot of the pics seen here!), Leslie, Me & Jamye

Jamye, Sheryl, Me & Shellane

Me & the Kanoyas

Jamye, Traci and Me

Me & Alicia

Dvora, Me & Carrie

They also had a pretty sweet beer garden sponsored by Pizza Port who just happened t brew two special beers for the race.

But alas, I gave up beer for Lent and I ended up giving Jamye my beer.  Shh, don't tell!

So would I do this All Day 20K again?  Yes, I think I would.  It was great fun with beautiful scenery, great beer (I hear), well organized, good medals and GREAT friends!

So, will you join me next year?  Have you ever done a race that had back to back to back mini races?

As always, I wish you Happy Feet,
SD Mom
