#poweredbybits GIVEAWAY, post long run rituals & Boston thoughts

For those following along, I have a bad hip.  Hopefully a hip on the road to recovery.  The lovely Christina agreed to do my long run with me at a slower pace than usual so I could ease my hip back into long runs.  So I prepped all my usual things - my Nuun water for during the run, my banana for after the run.  Business as usual except for one change: Energy Bits.

Promo Material from the Company

The company sent me a cute little tin of these guys to try on my next run.

Looks innocent enough...

So on my way to meet Christina, I took 30 of these little pellets with about 8 oz of water per my instructions.

Something's fishy around here...

Not going to lie...these smell like seaweed.  Really fishy seaweed and I got skeptical...could these really bring me energy?  Could they replace my usual pre-workout fuel?  Here is the info from their website:

""Algae was the first plant life on earth almost 3 billion years ago and is considered a superfood because it contains virtually every nutrient. It has over 60% protein content, over forty vitamins and minerals and a more complete amino acid profile than beef or soy beans. It is also one of the best known food sources of beta carotene, B vitamins, antioxidants and chlorophyll."

Their website is a wealth of information on this stuff.  Check it out here.

Back to the run.  I had Christina with me the first 6.5 miles and so of course runs always go faster with a friend.  I felt good.

SD Mom and Christina in our skirts - of course!
Then I started the last 3.5 miles by myself.  This was the real test.  Could I push myself to run these last few miles faster than the 1st half?  And guess what?  For the first time in almost 6 weeks, I found it in me to push on.  There was pain sure but there was also the glorious freedom of pushing thru and just running!  Whether I was #poweredbybits or by determination, I made it!  And I was pleased.  Will I be in peak condition for La Jolla?  Probably not but I will make the time cut offs.  And sometimes, when you are injured, that is all you can ask for!

Made it!  How cute is my yellow Swirlgear top?

I needed a shower and my favorite brew (coffee) in my favorite mug -

and my favorite post run treat - avocado with sea salt!

Now in honor of Boston and the brave speedy runners participating in America's Marathon on Monday April 21, especially Kat, Kay Kay, Ben & Patti, I am giving one of my readers a chance to win their own tin of Energy Bits to try out!
