Why do I blog?

I have done a lot of thinking over the last few days about blogging and what it brings to my life. Sure I get to try out a lot of products but what does it do for my soul?

I almost feel like a machine churning out content but I wonder where the satisfaction is. It was fun at first. Watching for my numbers to go up. Coming up with ideas. Meeting Blends (blogger friends)!

But then I got a comment on my blog which threw me off.

This comment took the wind out of my sails. I wasn't sure anymore. I wasn't satisfying my audience?!  What does that even mean?!   I wish I knew who this person was and what their blog looked like. I am not an expert. I am brand new but I also know, if I don't blog for myself, who do I blog for?

It's not like I am blogging for some big sponsor. I am blogging for me. And those who want to read me.

In my defeated state, I reached out to my fellow #SweatPink bloggers and they were unanimous. Blog for you. If people want to read, let them come read. If they don't, who cares?!  Move on!

And this, dear reader (all 12 of you!) is what blogging is all about. A community. Running has become my drug and these are my fellow junkies. They help with more than you can imagine. So while family will always come first, I am willing to ride this blogging train and see where it goes.

And so I am here to stay. For at least a little while longer but with a lot more perspective.

I don't want anyone to think I am not interested in what you think I should write about. I care. So much. Too much. So I am asking you to comment below with what you would like to see on the blog. What have you liked?  What haven't you liked?  What would you like to see more of?  Less of?

As always, I wish you Happy Feet,
SD Mom

  1. Is this what got you down homie? Shake it off Smitha. Keep doing whatcha doing. Isn't it better to connect with just 1 person than trying to please a 1000? Don't worry about that anon. If he's man enough to leave that comment then man up and put your name down. I got ya back!

  2. I'm sorry that that person was so rude. Honestly, I think at the end of the day, your blog is yours, and you should very much continue writing for you. There's no way to ever please everyone, so write about what you want! :] If people want to read, they will stay and do so. The ones that aren't interested can just move on. I like knowing that there's a real person behind the blog, and I like reading about your adventures. :D (Also, Trader Joe's is awesome and I miss it dearly.) Keep doing what you're doing! :]

  3. Wow, talk about rude! I've been blogging for five years. I do a lot of product reviews and giveaways, so I don't always post about me. HOWEVER, I post what I want when I want, because it's my blog. I know it's great to want to please your audience but don't forget that you come first.

  4. OH I am so sorry that person was a jerk. There will always be people out there who will criticize, but really, this is YOUR space. I guess my mentality is, some people will like my blog, others won't and that is okay. I blog because I like it and enjoy meeting like minded people. If they don't like me, there are about a million other bloggers out there that they can go read. You know? Keep your head up!

  5. There are always going to be negative people in live, I think they are just better of ignored. But I agree with you, as it's my own thoughts, I blog for me because I enjoy it. I love blogs that show a real person behind them. Product reviews and stuff like that is great, but we can get that on hundreds of blogs, finding a blogger who is a real person, willing to share their own good/bad that is what sets a blog apart from others:) personally those are the blogs I enjoy coming back to and commenting on:)
