#FriendshipFridays: Friday Five - Running Friends are the Best Friends

As you are reading this post, I am calming my nerves and trying to trot out the slow 2-3 miles that Coach Jenn has assigned me for the day before the Revel Canyon City Marathon on Saturday.  I thought long and hard about what 5 things I wanted to include in this post.  I decided the only thing that makes sense is to tell you about the BRFs who have stuck by me and brought me to the starting line!

1.  Coach Jenn

I would be remiss if I didn't start with Jenn.  Where would I be if I didn't have Jenn?!  Writing my plans for me, structuring my workouts, listening to me whine and complain, tell me not to go so fast, tell me not to go so slow, eat this, roll that.  She gets me.  Our families love each other.  We just click and have since the first day we met!  Even with all of that, she some how still loves me and I still love her.  So much so that she (along with Vanessa) is willing to be my roommate.  If she doesn't know what she has done for me, I hope she reads this!  And again, if you are looking for a great coach, check her out here.

2.  Jamye

Jamye is my encourager and my enabler.  She will gladly run 2 miles or 20 miles...doesn't matter to her.  She has enough energy for the both of us!  She looks forward to running like I look forward to a glass of wine at the end of the week and that kind of energy is infectious!

3.  Vanessa

Vanessa is a new-ish addition to my long run club but OMG!  It is like she has always been there.  She is HILARIOUS!  She sings me songs when my legs get tired and laughs at all my dirty Mile 12 jokes.  She tells it like it is, is drama free and just fun to be with.  And has a thing for James Bond.

4.  Tara

Tara and I are kindred spirits.  We have so much in common yet we are so different.  She has a beautiful spirit that yearns to travel and roam the world.  I like to be permanently rooted, nay, cemented, to San Diego.  But every #Runch with her is a different topic and we never seem to run out of fun conversations.  And she is the only soul who would gladly meet me at 4:00 a.m. to run!

5.  Leslie

Leslie is a truly unique soul.  If you know her, you would know what I mean.  Her heart is bigger than she is!  She gives of herself body and soul to her friends.  Want her to run with you?  Are you 2 mins faster than her preferred pace?  Are you 2 minutes slower (me) than her pace?  Doesn't matter!  She will run with you and make you feel good the whole time!

Bonus: San Diego Moms Run This Town

These women have truly saved my life.  Joining this group was the 4th best decision I ever made.  They have truly changed my life.  They taught me that exercise can be fun.  That girl time can involve running shoes and sweat.  That going to the beach means with your feet and hydration.  I am never alone or in need of a run buddy thanks to these women.  And for that I am blessed and very thankful.

I am close to tears writing this post because these women mean so much to me.  The women who run with me share more than their soles...they share their souls with me.  My heart grows fuller every time I am with them and I can honestly say that I wouldn't be the runner or the person I am today without every single one of them!

I am linking up with the Friday Five gang: MarCourtney and Cynthia AKA the DC Trifecta!

I am also linking up with the fabulous Jill Conyers for Fitness Friday!

Is there a running friend who does this for you?  Please tell me about them.  I want to hear and be inspired!

Wish me luck tomorrow!  I know I carry the spirit of each of these women with me!

As always, I wish you Happy Feet,
SD Mom

  1. Love you, girl! Thanks so much for being part of my life too! Can't believe it's only been a little over a year since we've met because I feel like I've known you forever. We're going to have a blast this weekend (and every weekend!) and I know you're going to rock this race. I am grateful to have been a part of it!

  2. The most awesome journey Smitha. What a wonderful world it is when women can come together and be so supportive of one another. Motivation and inspiration, with love all combined. Good luck and have a blast.
